I think my grandmother had high heels in mind when she used to tell me: “Beauty must suffer.” She also was talking about waxing your upper lip and wearing hot, itchy stockings (in her day, with garter belts and elastic clips too!)—but she was definitely also talking about wearing high heels.
There’s been a lot of coverage in the news lately about the negative health effects of improperly fitting shoes—especially regarding high heels and pumps, but even the innocent ballet flat has been getting some bad press. Apparently, it has less to do with the height of the heel and more to do with the quality of the overall fit. Read more on High heels: Long-term pain for short-term gain?…
Well, she’s not actually going barefoot…but Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl is wearing a shoe whose curved sole is supposed to imitate the rocking motion of walking around barefoot. Check it out…
According to podiatrists, walking barefoot can be a healthy thing for your feet. In a recent article by Lucy Atkins for The Island Online, actress Scarlett Johansson appeared shoeless to support a shoe charity’s “Barefoot Week” and there’s a rising trend of people actually going barefoot! On city streets!
Miuccia Prada was quoted in the New York Times on September 24 as saying about the spring-summer 2010 collection:
Platforms are dead—at least until next season.
What? In the fall 2009-winter 2010 collection, well over half of the shoes were platforms—sometimes hidden, sometimes not. Big stacked heels, high stilettos and lots of platform soles. See for yourself…
All I can say is, “Wow, wow, wow, wow.” These drop dead gorgeous shoes by Vouelle are absolutely breathtaking. Totally original and fun. I can promise you this: You will be the ONLY person at the company office party wearing these:
Just a few days ago, I posted my favorite pair of L.A.M.B. heels and now I find them for a great price ($299.99) at heels.com (one of my favorite online shoe sellers!).
I’m either psychic or it’s just destiny for me to own these shoes…Meant. To. Be.
Just read a fantastic write-up about Marcia Kilgore, the entrepreneurial powerhouse behind Bliss spas and Soap & Glory bath and body products for women (and now, men, too). In 2007, Kilgore launched FitFlops. FitFlops have sold more than 4.8 million pairs in the last two years. Here’s more about FitFlops:
This thick-soled, jaunty-coloured sandal has changed the footwear landscape forever. It was launched in 2007 after Kilgore was on one of her fact-finding missions. At a cellulite seminar (yes, the beauty industry holds such events), she was musing, “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a shoe that gave your legs a work-out while you walk?”—a real lightbulb moment. The FitFlop—whose patented Microwobbleboard midsole acts like a shock absorber and whose curved sole gently “floats” the foot—has legions of die-hard fans, who swear that their legs are more toned and slender as a result of wearing the shoes.
Turns out that the FitFlops makes more than flip flops. Check out these boots and comfy slip-ons:
Mukluk
Inuk
Snugger
Ultra Lounge
Gogh II
Whether or not the FitFlops line of shoes actually make your legs look more toned and shapely, let’s hear what creator Marcia Kilgore herself has to say:
I can’t say they do anything for cellulite because we haven’t done any testing. But improved blood flow is a good thing, the foot can move properly as it spreads out and down and the body can start recalibrating itself.
Interesting…
I really like the Mukluk made of double-faced breathable Shearling (sheepskin). I might have to try a pair myself and see if the Microwobbleboard [TM] technology works for me.
