I found an interesting article about super-stacked heels published a couple of days ago in Montreal’s “The Gazette” about the rise of the mega-heel.
According to the author, any heel any higher than 4 inches could really be categorized as a mega-heel, pointing out that strippers typically wear 8-inch heels.
Now, though, some high-end designers are getting in on the action. (No, not that action.)
The article reports:
Luxury brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Fendi have been churning out their own take on mega heels from gladiators to wedges.
This fall, Gucci will release a thigh-high boot that comes with a 5.9-inch stiletto and a platform of 1.7 inches. Part of the platform tiers are embedded in fabric, while part is exposed.
I love the look of a 5+ inch heel, especially with the hidden-platform, but I have to confess that I’ve personally never walked in anything higher than a 4-1/2-inch heel. Well, okay, there was that one time I wore 5-inch heels to my niece’s wedding and literally limped to my car after five hours of dancing.
But, I digress…
To hammer home the point, check out this photo snapped on the catwalk during Miuccia Prada’s Spring 2009 fashion show.

Two of Prada’s models fell down right on the
runway while wearing sky-high mega-heels.
So, what do you think? How high is too high? Are you willing to put up with the pain and potential mishaps in order to get that long, lean sexy look?
