The year was 1982. Jelly shoes made their debut at the World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN. Fast forward a couple of years and the ubiquitous, sparkly jellies were everywhere. Yeah, I think it could accurately be called a craze.
Now the same company that created jelly shoes, Brazilian brand Melissa (the designer branch of Grendene shoes) is now launching a new line of flexible footwear with designer flair.
Who’s in?
Vivienne Westwood.
Alexandre Herchcovitch.
Isabela Capeto.
Karim Rashid.
Wow. Plastic shoes are back…and better than every apparently. I guess this is the legacy of the Croc, which we’ve embraced to the tune of 100 million pairs in the last seven years.
MelissaPlasticDreams.com doesn’t have online purchasing (yet), but take a look at what’s coming up:

I don’t know about you, but I just can’t wait to try these out. If plastic and resin shoes are the next big thing, then I want to be ahead of that fashion curve!
So what’s a fashion-forward gal to do while we wait for Melissa to set up online ordering?! Turns out that Zappos (one of my favorite online sources for shoes) already has a number of great jelly-like shoes. Click any of the pics below to go straight to the Zappos site for product details.
